Ageless wonder?

Post by sledge4 »

I have a mare who has amassed a decent amount of cash (over 700k), just ran a 104 while finishing second in a Cavalcade Cup race...and she's 9 years old.

I can't believe Storm Harbor 86854 keeps ticking along. Every time I think it's time for the breeding shed, she turns in another 100+ SP race.

I just hate to breed her when she is running well and risk getting a stinker in her place.

This doesn't seem normal that a mare keeps running this well after so many years.

Anyone have a mare or know a mare who does. I'm sure there are some, but can't be many.

I have a mare in one of my stables who still goes pretty well and quite comparable to your mare Will.

She is OUR REASONS AGAIN - OUR EMBLEM x CYANE x SEA-BIRD

Like your mare, I wonder how well her lineage will tie in with others when comes the time to breed her ... although handy, is not a very inspiring lineage and might have to spend big to get a decent offspring or pray to the SimGods that some of the mare's talents rub off on the offspring.

Would love to try and get her to the $1,000,000 earnings mark, she is so deserving after her exploits on the simulated track ... I am sure you are looking at hitting that mark too huh Will???

Maybe we can set up a head to head battle in the future ... up the purse to try and nudge them closer to that elusive $1 million mark!!!!

I think there is a time in their form cycle that they lose form due to age (just like the wall they usually hit right around 30 races) and if you work through that they usually improve again. I also think their distance ability increases with age as so many of my oldwer horses run longer than they ever did when they were 'young'.

Have fun with her and stretch her out - run her in The Old Man series - supposedly a mile on the dirt this year.

Ooops - just looked at Ross's horse so maybe that isn't entirely true.

Yeah, my same feelings about her breeding lines...decent but not that wow factor.

My first desire was to get her to 10 wins because that upped the breeding grade. Then it was 5 stakes, which she got and gets her a C rating, now i'd like to get to B and/or one million like you said.

We can definitely setup a "match" race. Maybe 2 other members have a similar horse at the end of the road looking for some extra whatever before retiring.

Is your mare ok sprinting? What would be the preferred distance? I think best runs at 6.5.

I have had a few of these in the past, not quite to the same standard but horses that keep on winning when 9 or over. As for the breeding of these horses, thus far no luck. Better to keep them racing until their legs fall off

Will, my mare is only sprinting these days ... even though she won a stakes event over 13 furlongs back in her prime, the only times she kicks in a 100+ sp is when sprinting.

As Roys hinted at, she seemed to have buck the trend of wanting longer with age.

Give me some time to rustle up some credits so we can set up a race in the not to distant future, if you are still keen by then.
