Lines in the sand

Post by capnjubal13 »

what are some of the guidelines you guys have before retiring a horse ?
here are some of mine :
First 2 races under fifty sp (for horses I have bred)
First 3 races under 60 sp
5 races without a win (unless they have two or more 2nds)
10 races under 50k

For older horses from 20 races on I will watch their speed if it drops by 10 its time to look for a replacement
also if a horse falls below 50% ITM after 10 races he will be gone

Just wondering what you guys do ?

My guideline(s)... when the does the Sim automatically retire a horse? LOL!!

Actually, I'm curious what everyone does with older Male horses. Do you straight retire, put in auction, or breed as a he-mare.

Back to my guidelines, I guess because I don't spend a lot of money, most of my horses really decline for about 2 years before I cut bait. Otherwise I don't have the resources to replenish. I'm going through a revitalization now because I've saved up a lot of credits and such, so I've bred alot of new 2yo's.

Older horses hmmm.
Straight retire and breed to if good sirelines and is cheap enough.
Looking at 2 I have retired and might breed to soon.
Allowance winner 400 bp's(TAPIT x KITTEN'S JOY x SEEKING THE GOLD)
Graded winner 200 bp's(GIANT'S CAUSEWAY x FRANKEL (GB) x KINGMAMBO)
Otherwise auction.

I just cheapen them until they reach 30 races and then I retire them unless they are earning bps. I hate the idea of them going to the cpu

Is there something that kicks in at 30 races or is that just your personal bar?

I thought it was common knowledge that at 25 races most sim horses hit a wall . I have horses that take a slow down at 15 races and I have horses that still are in ALW races at 33 races but very few and far between. The sim ( I dont believe ) will retire a horse, A mare can no longer be used for breeding at 20 yo, So they might auto retire a horse at that age?

Out of 250 2 yos last year (not counting the ones I deleted early, But the females I retired early will come back for breeding at 4 yo) I have about 175 left and as they turn 4 yo it will get down to about 50 and most likely none will see 5 years (unless they are very good)

I know sim money really means nothing but since I have been operating my stables like this I went from making 500k to 1 million a year to last year making over 20 million.
