Thoughts on prize horses?

Post by sledge4 »

I have previously asked if folks preferred credits or horses and surprisingly, there was more interest in horses than credits.

Having said that, do you feel the quality of the prize pool horses are good? bad?

My breeding ability is slightly greater than non-existent, so I just try to breed horses based on names I know. The other limitation we have in place is that horses are usually bred in the 300-500 credit territory, which usually means I wait until the end of each week to see what is left.

Essentially, is everyone happy with what they get to choose from? If not, please suggest ways to improve?

2yo vs 3yo? Turf vs Dirt? Top sire vs so-so DD/DDS? Don't change a thing? etc etc!!

Suggestions are welcomed!!

Thanks,
Will

I generally like how things work and have received a couple nice prize horses myself. One thought I have is that maybe we can utilize some retired mares that nwrc members have in their stables. I know you have some in the nwrc stables that you breed with, but I'm guessing some members have some intriguing retired mares that either go unused or that we would be willing to donate the use of.

While I wouldn't want to spend the 500 credits and then donate the baby to the prize pool, I would be willing to breed to one of my retired mares and then transfer (donate) the offspring if the credits for breeding were supplied by the nwrc.

Basically I'm just thinking this would be a way to continue enhancing the quality of the available prize horses. I myself don't have a ton of great retired mares hanging around the barn, but there are a few that might be of use.

Anyway, just a thought.

I think the options you offer with either credits or pool pony are right on the mark Will.

People will always have their own preference to which they would prefer, and you do supply them with that option.

My one issue is the fact the pool gets replenished before the all the older offerings have been won and we do now have a few horses turning 4 and may sit in the pool for forever and a day.

I suggest that the pool horses that have sat there for too long get new homes before the pool gets replenished again, whether it be a little added incentive to the players who get involved more than the majority, sign up for each and every contest and pretty much keep the place ticking over under your control Will.
Those older prizes may be champions waiting to kick the stall door down, but whilst the newer and maybe richer bred prizes keep coming up for offer, they will struggle to get to the track, let alone the winners circle.

If you could weed out those older prizes and find a worthy way to deliver them to deserving NWRC members or even slip them into the NWRC owned barns so they can maybe churn up some bp's/credits for the NWRC cause, maybe they will not have been created in vain.

But, as I see it Will, the prizes and prize options are top notch matey ... and I do not see much changes needed to how you do things here.

I agree with the rest Will. Although I really haven't won much around here there have been a few horses in the prize pool I would of liked to have owned given the chance lol. Anyways I think things here are running really well under your direction. I know you would like to see more active participation but always remember those of us who do participate really appreciate the effort :)

I have won a couple of prize horses that have become very good runners-I also would much rather win a horse than credits. I always end up with some nice mares that I don't breed.--- I will be more than happy to donate a few horses to the res but right now I have very limited time to devote to the game. I have not even come close to breeding my 2yo's for the year. After I do I will see what I have left. Rich :D
