Still kicking the tires on the new game or have it down to a science already?

Not a fine science, but doing okay.

Got my stables entered okay after not seeing how to look for claimers, but got sorted on that ... tried to set jockeys, but still way too boring ... but will give that another crack during some quiet time.

Went on a sire share buying frenzy and found that most stables are lacking the ds sire option to breed anything, so will need to earn bp's quickly to pick up the missing and obviously required middle piece to complete my horses.

Got a couple of wins today, my first in the new game.

Still a few options that I hope Mike finds the time to add .... mare search is a pain in the but ... hopefully we will be to list sires for specific stables only (that is almost a must).
Still cannot see bp's earned on any page, stable, horse info or otherwise, that is also a needed piece of info.

Also Will, I set up nwrc2 as a master stable in the game so I could still enter and access it whilst in my care. I will send you the email account I used to set it up, and the password so that when I hand that stable back to be manage by someone else, you will have the required details.

Some small things are annoying me, but overall I have to say I'm loving it.

To me, the new breeding system is far superior, more flexible and far more interesting. I have bred quite a few new ones already and I'd definitely say it's cheaper in both points and credits than breeding in the old game. Particularly some good deals on retired mare breeding. I also really like being able to mix and match rather than just searching for a ds and dds that are close to what I want and available for credits (which was pretty standard for scratch breds in the old game).

Entering is easy and since you can save preferences, will be even easier going forward. Plus the fact that you can enter in advance is great for when real life makes it so you need to schedule a week or two weeks or 3 weeks or a month ahead of time. I love the farm and also the attempt to make sim money worth something. I really like being able to see recent breeding point and credit activity for my stables (is going to make keeping track of bp's each horse earns much easier...I guess that only matters if you are a numbers nerd like me and keep track of such things  ). You can see those by going to stable finance and they are the magnifying glass (points) and the safe (credits) in case anyone was wondering.

The jockeys are indeed annoying, but then I tell myself that once you activate and save them, you never have to again unless you want to adjust something. I despised assigning jockeys in the old game and am not particularly enjoying getting them set up in this one, but can take solace in the fact that it's not weekly and I don't have to do every stable separately.

For me, it is a huge upgrade/improvement. I realize others may not be quite so enthused, but I think if you put in some time you'll start to enjoy the features the new game offers.

Not doing well at all. After 13 years of the old game, which was very structured (enter and train by wed, race saturday etc.) this game seems almost freewheeling. There doesn't seem to be any deadlines to do anything. Still trying to get a handle-tomorrow (Sat) used to be my fav part of the game-this week I don't have a single horse entered. :( I'm also angry that Everyone didn't get to learn the game for several months-those people are bragging about how easy it is- :x

Sorry to be so negative-guess it may be time for this player hang up his tack. I'm not giving up yet but we'll see. Rich

Stick with it rich. I can tell you're frustrated, but you are a valued member of this residency and it would be a shame to not have you around. I know I may be one of those folks you're angry at due to my positive post above, but I wasn't a tester and have formed my opinion this past week. Now, I have certainly had more time than most to play around with things, as I've been on a mini-vacation with plenty of down time, so I've put in some hours. That is probably part of the reason I'm as positive as I am.

While it is certainly more flexible (free-wheeling), you could still make it structured pretty similar to the old game for yourself if you wanted to. The majority of races still happen on Saturday and so you could just decide you are going to enter your horses who are scheduled to race on Wednesday (or any other day you wanted to make entry day) of every week. When you go to the rafi box on the horse page, pick your settings and save them (will make future entering much faster) and then just have it show races from 0-7 days. You'll see all the races that meet the preferences and most will be Saturday races.

Not sure if the above will be helpful, but thought I'd try, as I think you can still find enjoyment playing this game you've played for so long.

Love so much of the new game, but the only downfall, which is a huge one, is the adverse effect it is having on residency play.

Right now, in both residencies I belong, we are sitting and waiting to see how things pan out .. and that too me is very disappointing.

Right at the moment all we are doing is racing for ourselves with no byplay what so ever ... I really think that Mike could have got a group of residency tool beta testers as well as the other group, just to see if scoring contests and such was going to be easy enough with the new data block/dump files.

For the most part, Mike is on to a winner, but with residency play suffering, the changes overall are in the also rans column.

Rich - I hear your frustrations. I was a tester and it still took me some time to get my entries in for the week. Like Rharfo said, you could still run pretty close to the "old" format with your entries and such. Plus while it initially will take him, once you set your jockeys that weekly time is done. If you were a person who adjusted your jocks every week in the old game.

Rharfo - I completely agree about the residencies. On multiple occasions I made a point to Mike that he needed to give the residencies some attention and he just kept saying it was crucial to the "core" of the game to start, but he would address it once the game went live.

I'm going to make a post on the Sim MB to see how the other residencies are handling it.

Hobby-I certainly didn't mean to say I was mad at you for anything-please accept my apology if it came out that way. I just was suggesting that if everyone had been able to play for several months it would have been a much smoother transition. :D Rich
