OK - I will start this off.
Back in the prehistoric days of the Sim, I only had two stables - Roys and Bird and can't even remember which stable it was and I sure didn't keep the horse long enough to remember it's name. It wasn't so simple to navigate around the auction or to claim a horse in those days. You had to search each horse seperately for past performances on their stable page.
Anyway, I was searching through the auction one day, horse by horse, and finally found one I really liked. We didn't have the proxy bid at that time so I put in a pretty substantial offer for the beast and checked back often to see if I needed to bid more. I was surprised when no one outbid me although I had put in a really nice offer. On Saturday the horse was mine and I was excited. I opened up my stable page to check on my new horse. Much to my chagrin - I seemed to have put a bid in on the wrong horse. It might have been the one above or below the one I wanted or maybe I entered the wrong number. Whatever it was - it wasn't the horse I wanted. Worse - it was really hard to get a bad horse with bad breeding back then. But I got one! I think it was 0/50 at the bottom level and was out of Texas by Boxcar.
Needless to say, I stuck it right back into the auction the very next week and it didn't get a single bid - returning to the computer. I am sure, whoever I paid that six figure amount to - laughed all the way to the sim bank.

Not sure if this is supposed to be here or on the page through the link, so I'll post it both places.
First, nice buy Roys. That's about the equivalent of your prized auction purchase getting a career-ending injury on the trip back to your farm...OUCH.
I don't have any great stories right now, but I do have a horse in my scoregon barn called Runing River(SWE)-153632, who I have no idea why I purchased at auction. Maybe because she was winless, but looked good for a maiden claim victory or a few bp's, but man she is horrible. I came back after two years away and was like, what kind of moron stole my login information and purchased this nag.
BTW, if this sounds like a mare any of you would like to have in your stable (I think I did a good job of selling her virtues), she is available in this week's auction....oh, and she's injured.
