So I was wondering... when a new year starts, do you breed 3yo's hoping you can get one for the Derby, or do you just breed 2yo's? This would be for say any horses bred during the Jan/early-Feb timeframe.
I've always been of the mindset that 2yo's this early either don't pan out or peak too early to be a strong contender their 3yo campaign.
Thoughts? Opinions?

Re: New Year breeding theories
I have had early 2 yo that did well enough to keep and the came into their own mid-late 3yo
but I dont think it matters that much . I race my ponies once every 4 1/2 weeks
Jungle Pirate was a FEB Baby killed it his whole 2 yo season then fell off mid 3 yo season but switched to turf now and seems to be picking it back up
I believe it has more to do with the horse then the season
